French electronic group M83 have a new album due out later this month, and yesterday they shared a taste of it with a new single release. “Blister Sunrise” is the first track on I Wrote You A Letter‘s tracklist and was released as a single ahead of the full album, as Pitchfork reports. Official audio for the track can be found on the band’s channel.
Coming with a sound that’s bombastic and cinematic, the track creates a noisy haze mixing synths with percussion and strings on top of distant sounding vocals. The track’s opening explodes, almost as if beginning in the middle of the song, with the track having an abrupt halt around a minute in before bringing back the instrumentation in an even more explosive sound. Later, within the bombastic and droning instrumentation are subtle progressions and changes that give the song a dynamic and impactful quality amidst the already strong and overwhelming feelings of the track.
I Wrote You A Letter, set for release on September 25th, will mark the band’s tenth studio album. Founder and frontman Anthony Gonzalez said the album was made with collaborators Joe Berry, Clément Libes and Benoit de Villeneuve. The album runs for a total of nine tracks, with Blister Sunrise coming as the first on the tracklist.
