Grammy-nominated artist K.Flay has released her new single “Ants” alongside a music video. Starting with a warning screen displaying a message from the fictional corporation Yesterday Corp., the music video goes on to feature voice actor Matthew Mercer as E.O. Wilson, the CEO-esque character of said fictional corporation. Complete with shaky VHS footage and a physical altercation between K.Flay and Mercer’s character as he destroys her cassette tape, the video depicts K.Flay as two characters; one who is seemingly a company worker, and one that breaks into the company warehouse with the intention of confronting Mercer’s character. With close-ups of ants in a petri dish as K.Flay sings, “If you wanna wear big boots, gonna have to kill some ants,” the song’s lyrics, distorted electric guitar, and jarring music video visuals emphasize the song’s theme of the destructive nature of power. K.Flay took to Instagram to explain the song, describing it as “an expression of the disillusionment [she] feels when [she] look[s] out at the world right now,” continuing by stating, “there are levels to this power, this loss. and as humans, we all have to decide — whether consciously or not — how much we’re willing to destroy.”
The release of this single coincides with the approaching date marking a decade since the release of K.Flay’s breakout 2017 album, Every Where Is Some Where, which included her smash single, “Blood in the Cut,” along with her hit song “High Enough,” which peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Alternative Songs upon its release.
K.Flay is currently on a support tour with Evanescence and Poppy in the UK, with one US date in Red Rocks on October 26. She also recently launched her first ever paid fan club experience, Flay’s World, and played at Super Girl Surfer Pro Festival at the end of August. K.Flay has plans to release new music throughout the rest of 2026.
