Making her long awaited return with her fourth studio album Old Flames, La Roux has given fans another taste of this anticipated release with “Lose Myself.” The track, a deeply personal and reflective look at La Roux’s struggles with weed dependency, is the latest single shared following the album’s announcement in May. A video for this track can be found on her YouTube channel.
The video stars La Roux herself, with shots set at a striking sunset and amidst the dark of night. The track opens with more ambient synths and La Roux’s voice mainly carrying the track before an explosively catchy electronic beat kicks in with the artist repeating “Sometimes, I feel like I can’t get enough/Yeah the music’s making me lose myself.” Shots of the singer coated in red lights dancing are spliced across scenes of her singing the song’s lyrics before the beat returns to something more subdued as her vocals take center stage again. After the second drop ends, a more emotional and reflective refrain kicks in with Roux’s voice reaching emotional highs.
“‘Lose Myself’ is me battling between the angel and the devil on my shoulder,” said La Roux in a release. “The verses are me struggling to kick my addiction and show up for myself and the choruses are like me wanting to give up on the whole thing and just get lost. The song is kind of a fight to try to get me to have enough love and respect for myself to break out of that cycle.” The reflective themes of this song follow in line with previous releases, such as Babyline’s themes of finding oneself again after a long time of hiding. The tracks all paint a strong idea of Old Flames, an album set to see La Roux confronting a collapsed relationship and other personal struggles of love, addiction and sexuality. The full album’s release is set for November 6th.
