Trailblazing mashup producer Girl Talk (aka Gregg Gillis) and underground rap eccentrics Michael Christmas and Chris Crack present the new single and video, “Garfield Hated Mondays But Didn’t Have A Job,” from their forthcoming EP, Don’t Come To My House Sharing Your Location, which will be out on August 14, through C&G Records/Illegal Art. “Garfield Hated Mondays But Didn’t Have A Job” features a bright disco-era sample that infuses the track with party-starting energy, while the trio reshape its pop appeal through their idiosyncratic lens.
Michael Christmas and Chris Crack trade razor-sharp verses over Girl Talk‘s dynamic production by combining irreverent charisma, swagger, and a gleefully antagonistic edge. Today’s single follows “Vending Machine Charcuterie Board,” named a “Best Track” by The Needle Drop. Balancing humor with earnestness and braggadocio with self-awareness, Don’t Come To My House Sharing Your Location takes the loose and experimental appeal of Michael Christmas and Chris Crack’s hip-hop and transforms it with colorful, detailed production and a sharp sense of songcraft.
It’s like a mutated version of a big-budget rap album, complete with ear-catching hooks; its crossover instincts constantly warped by offbeat sensibilities. Don’t Come To My House Sharing Your Location is the first Girl Talk project since 2022’s Full Court Press, a collaborative album with Wiz Khalifa, Smoke DZA, & Big K.R.I.T., and continues a run of Girl Talk producing some of his favorite artists, including T-Pain and Yaeji, Sauce Walka, Young Nudy, Curren$y, Bas, G Perico, Erick The Architect (Flatbush Zombies) and Freeway.
