Pop singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles unveiled a brand new song yesterday titled “Still Crying.” The song becomes the third single from her forthcoming album Good Grief, joining “Salt Then Sour Then Sweet” featuring Brandi Carlile and “Home.”
“Still Crying,” co-written by Aaron Dessner, is a mellow, guitar-backed song that follows the singer’s experience of feeling intense emotions so frequently that she can’t fully understand or stop them. The refrain of “I’m still crying/Always crying/I don’t want to anymore” illustrates this struggle. Bareilles’ vocals sound gorgeous throughout the track and blend well with the steady instrumentation.
Of the song, the artist said, “I was trying to wrap my arms around the redundancy and the stuckness of that feeling of, ‘How am I here again? Why am I still crying? I’m still in the same loop.’”
The making of Good Grief was revealed in a documentary titled “Sara Bareilles: Good Grief,” which made its world premiere last month at the Tribeca Festival. It will be Bareilles’ seventh studio album, the follow-up to her most recent 2019 project, Amidst the Chaos. Good Grief runs 14 songs, is self-produced and is slated for an August 28th release. Afterwards, she’ll kick off her Good Grief tour on September 9th in Boston with dates all across the United States.
