Sleep At The Wiltern On September 28th

Sleep, a pioneering stoner-metal trio whose monolithic rifts helped define an entire genre, are set to bring their North America 2026 tour to beautiful Los Angeles, arriving on Monday, September 28 at The Wiltern.

The Los Angeles date arrives during the band’s biggest surge of activity in recent years. The group released “Have Spacesuit Will Travel,” their first new music in eight years and the first Sleep recording since 2018’s acclaimed comeback album The Sciences. This single also marks an interesting turning point for the group as it is the first song without co-founding guitarist Matt Pike. Instead, vocalist and songwriter Al Cisneros is now joined by guitarist Bubba Dupree of Void and drummer Dale Crover of the Melvins. Cisneros has praised the lineup for recapturing the heavy, lommi-inspired spirit at the core of the band’s sound.

The fall trek will begin September 8 in San Diego and run through the West before a November stretch across the Midwest, Canada, and the East Coast, wrapping up November 17 in Washington D.C. The Wiltern show is only a small piece of a bigger California picture: the group have two more nights playing at San Francisco’s Filmore, a Santa Cruz stop at The Catalyst, and a Santa Ana date at The Observatory the night after Los Angeles. Cisneros is also making a debut as an author, releasing a Sleep comic book alongside the tour, which will follow the Marijuanaut to Planet Iommia.

Formed in San Jose, California in the early 1990s, Sleep built a towering reputation on the strength of records like Sleep’s Holy Mountain and the hour-long-single-track odyssey Dopesmoker. These works have grown into landmarks of doom and stoner metal. After spending a decade apart and reforming in 2009, the band has reclaimed its standing of the genre’s defining live forces, pummeling audiences with massive riffage, plodding tempos, and Cisnero’s hypnotic vocals. For Los Angeles fans, the Wiltern show offers a rare chance to witness that sound inside one of the city’s most storied Art Deco theaters.
