San Francisco based folk-rock solo act Sun Kil Moon is headed to New York City. Born from the end of the indie rock band Red House Painters, the first album was made with the former band members. Ghosts of the Great Highway was created after the delayed release of what became the Red House Painters’ last album, Old Ramon. Ghosts of the Great Highway was well received, with the song “Carry Me Ohio” earning a spot on Pitchfork’s Top 500 Songs of the 2000’s. Notable singles like “Lily and Parrots” and “Carry Me Ohio” were also featured in the film Shopgirl.
It was Sun Kil Moon’s fourth studio album where listeners saw Mark Kozelek in his solo act. The 2010 album Admiral Fell Promises set the stage for Kozelek’s work as an individual, leaning into his guitar skills. This artist made a name for himself as not just a musician but a novice actor, appearing in small roles in projects such as Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, and Shopgirl. His work spans genres, mediums, and bands, focusing instead on the intentionality of work and curating a collection that is raw and emotional.
Sun Kil Moon will be doing a special holiday performance at Sony Hall on December 15th at 8:00 p.m. Don’t miss the chance to be part of the intimate seasonal performance, fun for the whole family!
