Celebrate the 40th anniversary of Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh’s hit “La-Di-Da-Di.” Independent record store Rough Trade NYC will be hosting the duo for the signing of their re-release single. Doors open at 5:55 on Tuesday, November 25th, and the signing begins at 6 p.m. A live performance of the single will follow the signing.
The song is credited with launching hip-hop into the public forum and helping shape the golden age of the genre. With no instruments and created before auto-tune, the single is the blueprint for narrative rap. This simple and conversational style was recognized for its cultural contributions by being inducted into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry.
The first 100 attendees will receive limited-edition merchandise with the purchase of the album. Slick Rick’s style is theatrical and distinguished by how he speaks directly to listeners. His British lilt and Caribbean tone make his storytelling legendary. Harlem’s favorite beatboxer Doug E. Fresh’s rhythm-driven, percussive voice solidifies him as a performer. He is a showman at heart. Don’t miss this intimate show by two hip-hop legends!
