UPDATE (8/20): The BBC has issued a statement in regard to their decision in pulling an Ozzy Osbourne documentary from airing. BBC confirmed that the rescheduling was prompted by the Osbourne family wishes. A spokesperson stated, “Our sympathies are with the Osbourne family at this difficult time. We are respecting the family’s wishes to wait a bit longer before airing this very special film. The new TX [transmission] date will be confirmed shortly.”
According to Consequence, a new documentary spotlighting the life of Ozzy Osbourne, titled Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, was originally scheduled to debut on Monday evening. However, just hours before the scheduled broadcast on August 18th, the BBC unexpectedly removed the special from its programming with no explanation as of the evening of August 18.
“The film has moved in the schedules and we’ll confirm new [transmission] details in due course,” a representative from the BBC informed Us Weekly. The British broadcaster had originally been granted exclusive access to the iconic rock star and his family for a planned docuseries titled Home to Roost.
This series aimed to follow Ozzy and his wife Sharon as they transitioned from their longtime residence in Los Angeles back to the United Kingdom. Following Ozzy’s recent death, the footage from the series was condensed and repurposed into a standalone one-hour documentary.
When the project was first unveiled on August 7, Clare Sillery, the BBC’s head of documentary commissioning, commented, “We are honored to have had the opportunity to film with Ozzy and his family. The film captures an intimate glimpse into their journey as they prepare to return to the UK. It features family moments, humor, reflection and shows the enduring spirit that made Ozzy a global icon. We hope it brings comfort and joy to Ozzy’s fans and viewers as they remember and celebrate his extraordinary life.”
Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22 of a heart attack, a mere 17 days after delivering his final solo and Black Sabbath performances during the “Back to the Beginning” farewell event.
