Grammy Award-nominated Noah Cyrus sat down with friend and collaborator Orville Peck at the Grammy Museum’s Ray Charles Rooftop Terrance for an evening conversation discussing her newest album, I Want My Loved Ones To Go With Me, released on July 11. Cyrus shared her creative process, looked back on her career and live premiered songs from the record.
I Want My Loved Ones To Go With Me co-produced by Cyrus and her trusted collaborators Mike Crossey and PJ Harding. The album is rooted in Americana, indie folk, and country music. It is a moody, dynamic listening experience mixing whispered vocals with full-throated declarations of personal independence and commitment to a partner, all tied together by organic instrumentation. The themes include family and nature through Cyrus’ interpretation of country music.
Attendees were able to enjoy rooftop views and a cash bar during the special program. Roughly after 7:30 p.m. Peck took the stage as the surprise moderator. After welcoming guests to the program, the country star introduced Cyrus. Cyrus appeared as though she was straight from a fairy tale, a princess look adorned in a white flowing dress. The two friends greeted each other, just as best friends would. Cyrus immediately acknowledged that Peck inspired new music on the new album and thanked him for moderating the conversation.
Cyrus stated that music was a constant connection to her family, whether it was listening to Abba in the car ride with her mother or her father and siblings playing an instrument or singing, “it breathed in our family.” The singer-songwriter mentioned that the hymn featured in the song “Apple Tree” is sung by her grandfather and written by her great-grandfather, making it four generations of the Cyrus family within I Want My Loved Ones To Go With Me. She also mentioned feeling a strong connection to her lineage while creating the record. The album features “With You,” the first song Billy Ray Cyrus ever wrote. Noah recalled a story of losing one of her closest friends in 2018 and her father singing her this song in attempt to comfort her.
Cyrus told the story of having to hunt down Blake Shelton’s number and personally asking him to collaborate on the song “New Country.” After receiving mixed messages from Shelton’s team, Cyrus took it upon herself to find his number and write to him personally. After clearing up the miscommunication of possible time constraints the two came up with a plan to record the track.
The Grammy-nominated artist gave a sneak peek of what fans can expect for her upcoming world tour, “I want you to feel like you’re out in the meadow with Edward Cullen.” Even though the designs are still being worked on, Cyrus did share she wants to bring in nature into the venues with a refreshing design.
Following the 30-minute discussion, Cyrus performed tracks from I Want My Loved Ones To Go With Me. She thanked everyone for the support, including her mother Tish Cyrus who was sitting in the front row. The performance included six songs including “What’s It All For?” and Cyrus’ personal favorite “XXX.” Peck joined Cyrus on stage for a special live premier of an unrecorded rendition of “Love Is A Canyon.” Cyrus revealed that the special rendition featuring Peck will be featured in a deluxe version of I Want My Loved Ones To Go With Me.
Noah Cyrus will kick off her headlining tour on September 12, 2025. Watch a video down below of Cyrus and Peck’s live premier of “Love Is A Canyon.”
