Since 2018, thrash metal icons Slayer have considered the band “retired.” While they have no plans for any future albums or full-scale tours, that hasn’t stopped them from performing live on occasion. Last year the group performed a showing in Chicago, their first in five years following the aforementioned “end” of the band which also had featured the first performance of “213” since 1998. Now just yesterday, the band once again performed to eager fans, marking their first in 2025.

The show, as reported by Metal Injection, was a 20-song performance at the Blackweir Fields in Cardiff, UK. It is the first of three opening shows in the UK, with it and their July 6th performance at Finsbury Park in London set to be the band’s largest performances ever in the UK, to venues of up to 35,000 and 45,000 fans respectively. Among the list of 20 songs the band performed to excited fans in the UK was the song “Spirit in Black,” which marks this show as the song’s first live performance since 2017. While there are no official recordings of the performance yet available, many audience recordings of songs can be found on YouTube.

Slayer is set to perform five more times across 2025, with two July in the UK and one in Canada and another two September shows in the United States. These scant few shows mark potentially the only chance fans will have to see the group in person for the rest of the year.

The full setlist of their July 3rd show is as follows:

“South Of Heaven”
“Repentless”
“Disciple”
“Die By The Sword”
“Jihad”

“Seasons In The Abyss”

Steven Taylor: Hello, I'm Steven! I'm a graduate of Seton Hall University. I majored in journalism, with a minor in Public Relations. I've always had a passion for the arts and creative fields. Writing especially is an area I've always found myself gravitating towards, between assignments in class, working for the school newspaper or just writing in my spare time. I love providing and hearing new perspectives. In addition to my studies and work in writing, I work part-time at after-school and summer programs for my local elementary school. I've been a part of these programs since I was in high school, and I've even been assigned to work one-to-one with children with special needs. I like to think that if I'm able to communicate well with children in the 2nd grade, then I can communicate well with most adults too!
