Cyndi Lauper’s voice has always been hard to pin down: brash, tremulous, wildly elastic are what comes to mind first but they don’t even begin to encapsulate all of her. But beneath the neon and the unforgettable hair, there’s always been precision. On Sunday, August 24, Lauper will bring that voice, and the decades of feeling it carries, to Mountain View’s Shoreline Amphitheatre, a venue built for resonance.
She’s best known for the songs that turned her into an icon: “Time After Time,” “True Colors,” and of course, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” But Lauper’s career has never been about one era. She’s dipped into blues, reinvented standards, written for Broadway, and somehow managed to make each turn feel inevitable.
What remains constant is her ability to move between play and ache, between theatricality and truth. A Lauper show doesn’t coast on hits; it reanimates them. The joy still lands hard. So does the ache.
Shoreline Amphitheatre, known for its warmth and clarity, offers the right kind of stage for an artist who’s spent her career refusing to be boxed in. Expect the unexpected, but also expect to feel something.
