Groundbreaking pop icon Cyndi Lauper begins her Girls Just Want To Have Fun Farewell Tour. She is set to perform all of her greatest hits, including “Time After Time,” “True Colors,” and, of course, “Girls Just Want To Have Fun.” Her Chicago performance will take place at the United Center on Dec. 5 with opener and special guest Gayle.
Cyndi Lauper is considered one of the most influential and seminal female artists of this generation. She began making music in 1983 with the release of her first studio album, She’s So Unusual, in 1983. She is known for her eccentric and bright-colored fashion taste as well as her electric punk attitude.
She took the world by storm after the release of that first album. She became the first female artist to have four top-five hits on the Billboard’s Hot 100. As a result of this, she won “Best New Artist” at the 27th Grammy Award Ceremony two years later in 1985.
Her discography is plentiful and full of life. In total, she has released eleven albums, including a holiday album, 20 singles, and 3 EPs. She has also collaborated with and participated in many other projects. She has worked with artists like Gloria Estefan, Cher, Belinda Carlisle, and even Dolly Parton.
She is beloved in her field. She is particularly esteemed for promoting women’s and LGBTQ+ rights both through her music and through her activism.
After years of being a seminal icon, Cyndi Lauper is now putting on her final tour. Her last Chicago performance will be held at the United Center on Dec. 5 with opener Gayle. Tickets can be purchased now through TicketMaster TicketMaster.com.
