For fans of the punk-rock band Metz, their most recent announcement is bittersweet, to put things lightly. After sixteen years and six albums—the most recent of which having been released earlier this year—the group has announced that they’ll be taking a creative break for the foreseeable future following their European tour in November.
In their press statement, the band made it clear that the decision was made with no ill will present. While it’s true that they’ve faced some hardships in the past decade, such as their equipment being stolen during a previous tour, the band clarified that they simply want to “focus on other endeavors and enjoy more time at home with [their] families.”
They further elaborated that, “If you’ve ever attended a Metz show, you know it was more than a band to us. We gave every ounce of ourselves to Metz, and it will be very hard to let it go. The intangible feeling of connection, community, and inclusivity that music creates has always been at the heart of what we do and will inevitably be what we miss the most. We will miss singing, screaming, sweating, and dancing with all of you.”
