Julian Koster of Neutral Milk Hotel has been accused of alleged grooming and alleged sexual assault. These allegations come from Elephant 6’s Anna Gallons, also known as Nesey.
According to stereogum.com, Gallons claims that she allegedly started talking to Koster over the phone and over email in 2000. Gallons was 15 at the time. Through this correspondence, Koster allegedly told Gallons that they were souldmates, and he then allegedly invited her to visit him in New York.
Gallons claims that their relationship allegedly became sexual in April of 2001, when she was 16. “This, by all common definitions, constitutes ‘grooming,’” she stated. “Many among our community knew.” Gallons says that Koster went on to allegedly sexually assault her twice in 2005. Gallons goes on to claim that Neutral Milk Hotel’s frontman, Jeff Magnum, allegedly knew about her relationship with Koster, but he allegedly did nothing to stop it. She states, “When things first transpired there was only one person who explicitly asked what was going on and received a direct and truthful answer back in April 2001, and that was Jeff.” (via stereogum.com)
According to stereogum.com, Koster has responded to these allegations on Instagram, stating “Though this put her over Georgia’s legal age of consent when our relationship began, it was wrong to allow the relationship to happen at all and I’ve apologized to Nesey many times for that. I should have been more responsible about the age gap, but I deny all the other accusations she’s made.”
Koster then fired back by saying that “I have been the victim of intimidation, manipulation, and abuse by Nesey Gallons for many years,” and claimed that Gallons and her spouse, Paul Gallons, had allegedly sent him countless messages in which they have allegedly threatened to harm themselves or Koster if he did not allow them to control him, “emotionally, physically, and sexually.” (via stereogum.com)
On a more positive note, Neutral Milk Hotel shared the The Collected Works of Neutral Milk Hotel in February of last year. This project is a collection of all of their works compiled into a single box set.
