AC/DC’s iconic “Thunderstruck” has officially become the rock legend’s first Diamond-certified single in the United States. Consequence.net reports that the track has shifted ten million units, which earns them the official certification from the RIAA.

“Thunderstruck” was originally released in 1990 as the opening track and lead single to AC/DC’s album, The Razor’s Edge. in the three decades since, it has easily become one of AC/DC’s most recognizable songs. The famous guitar intro from guitarist, Angus Young, is enough to get people’s blood pumping.

The track has remained a staple on countless classic rock radio stations and even more so at worldwide sporting events, according to consequence.net. They add that the song “can often be heard blaring from the PA when a home football team needs an important third-down stop, or prior to tipoff at a basketball game to hype up the crowd.”

With the song’s legacy and continuing popularity, it may come as a surprise that the band had not received this certification until now. Apparently, “Thunderstruck” was awarded Gold, Platinum, and Diamond certifications from the RIAA similtaneously, for earning half a million, one million, and ten million units respectively. The RIAA now includes both sales and streaming activity in these unit calculations. (via consequence.net)

Fans can certainly expect to hear “Thunderstruck” themselves during AC/DC’s remaining summer tour dates. The band will be wrapping up their tour mid-August after being joined by former Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney across Europe.
