The Los Angeles Philharmonic announced a new collaborative performance with jazz singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Laufey. The performance is set to take place on Wednesday, August 7 at the iconic Hollywood Bowl.
Last summer, Laufey and the LA Phil teamed up for a very special performance at The Ford. Now, they’re crossing the 101 for a spectacular night of jazz at the Bowl. LA Phil’s Thomas Wilkins will serve as conductor for the special night. The LA-based singer returns to collaborate with the legendary LA Phil, this time on a bigger stage to perform a series of enchanting compositions from her two studio albums, Everything I Know About Love and Bewitched.
Laufey’s brand of jazz is rooted in the classic stylings of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Chet Baker. But it’s also bright and modern, equal parts confessional and inspirational. It adds up to a songbook that’s all her own. Those songs are infused with her approach to life: “I definitely romanticize a lot of things,” she recently said. “I think it comes out of seeing the beauty in the small things.” Her ability not only to see that beauty but to share it and make it feel personal has made her a favorite at jazz festivals and a star in the eyes of music fans around the world.
In 2020, while still a student at Berklee College of Music, Laufey released her debut single “Street by Street,” which went on to top the Icelandic radio charts. Following the release of her 2021 Typical of Me EP, Laufey was named Best New Artist in Jazz and Blues at the Icelandic Music Awards and hosted her own show on BBC Radio 3/BBC Sounds. Her debut full-length Everything I Know About Love, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative New Artist Album chart, and the lead single “Valentine” peaked at No. 1 on the Spotify Jazz Chart. In 2022 Laufey was the most streamed jazz artist on Spotify, with 425 million streams across all platforms.
