The Bug Announces Collaborative New Album Disconnect Featuring KMRU For June 2024 Release, Shares Lead Single “Differ”

Kevin Richard Martin, better known as The Bug, and Joseph Kamaru, also known as KMRU, are joining forces as KRM & KMRU, and will be releasing a new album, Disconnect, on June 14th. Not only that, but the pair have already released their first single, “Differ.”

The Bug has collaborated with many other artists over the past few years, including Jason Williamson and Moor Mother. But it seems like there’s something special about this collaboration. According to Pitchfork, Martin learned about Kamaru through his 2020 documentary, Under the Bridge. Martin stated, “aside from immediately finding Joseph’s approach to sound and music so instantly impressive, I also found his spoken voice possessed a captivating, lilting, tonal quality, with his soft-spoken accent.”

Kamaru goes on to describe the process of creating the album with Martin, stating, “the album originated from an exploration of a text I wrote during my sound art studies, delving into the complexities of Otherness. The project served as a response to Audre Lorde’s idea that differences should be embraced as a dynamic force within humanity, rather than a perceived threat.” (via Pitchfork)

According to PitchforkDisconnect will be followed by the release of an EP titled Otherness, which was apparently recorded in the same sessions.

Disconnect Tracklist:

1. Differences
2. Arkives
3. Difference
4. Ark
5. Differ
6. Arcs
