Blur has announced a Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival warm-up show at Fox Theater Pomona. The show will take place on Wednesday, April 10 and includes support from Jockstrap.
Damon Albarn is set to return for a second consecutive year to Coachella, only this time he will be performing with Blur. The London-based rock band will make an appearance at this year’s Coachella Festival on Saturday, April 13 and Saturday, April 20. Before performing both weekends at Coachella, Blur will take part of Goldenvoice’s April concert series with a headlining performance at the Fox Theater in Pomona, California on April 10. The one-night-only show will mark the first time Blur will perform in the US since 2015.
Albarn, Graham Coxon, Dave Rowntree, Alex James reunited in 2023 releasing Blur’s ninth studio album, The Ballad of Darren, on July 21, 2023. The album was teased with the first single “The Narcissist” marking the first new music in eight years. The band made a few live appearances at a few festivals in Europe, Japan, and more. Before they could make it to the states, Albarn announced that Blur would be entering another hiatus as things were getting to be “too much” having revived both of his major bands, Gorillaz and Blur, at the same time. Despite the announcement, Blur was announced to be part of the 2024 Coachella lineup.
Blur formed in London in 1988 and were quick to revolutionize British pop. Blur would go on to popularize the sound of English pop music with six successive UK No. 1 albums Parklife (1994), The Great Escape (1995), Blur (1997), 13 (1999), Think Tank (2003) and The Magic Whip (2015). Blur is considered one of the biggest British bands of the last three decades due to their abundant chart-topping albums, number one singles, Brit and Ivor Novello Awards. Songs such as “Girls & Boys,” “Song 2,” “Coffee & TV,” and “Tender” have become modern standards, both to long-time fans and new generations of music lovers around the world who discover the band for the very first time. When blur announced their biggest ever show after eight years away, the Wembley Stadium, London concert sold out immediately. Blur is also known for their highly-energetic and captivating live performances.
