The Magnetic Fields At The United Theater On April 23 & 24

The Magnetic Fields are celebrating the 25th anniversary of 69 Love Songs by performing it in its entirety during a full tour this spring. The 69 Love Songs 25th Anniversary Tour includes a stop at the United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles, California on Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24.

The Magnetic Fields are pleased to announce a recently extended 36-date tour of US cities with dates this spring and newly announced fall shows. Lead singer-songwriter Stephin Merritt will be joined by all of the original performers on the album—Sam Davol, Claudia Gonson, Shirley Simms, and John Woo—across a handful of two-night stands. The US tour kicks off on March 22 and 23 with two shows at North Adams, MA taking a quick break following the two-night shows on June 1 and 2 in Atlanta, GA. The tour continues with European and UK shows running from August 21 through Septebmer 17. The US leg then resumes on October and 20 in Washington, DC and officially concludes on November 1 and 2 in Seattle, WA.

69 Love Songs, a three-volume set of Merritt’s genre-spanning accounts of love in its many forms, arrived on Merge Records in September 1999. The album has gotten reissued on vinyl twice, in 2010 and 2015. The last time the band performed 69 Love Songs in its entirety was in 2002 at Alice Tully Hall in NYC.

To date, Merritt has written and recorded twelve Magnetic Fields albums, including the beloved 69 Love Songs and 2017’s critically acclaimed 50 Song Memoir, which chronicled the first fifty years of the songwriter’s life with one song per year. Merritt has also composed original music and lyrics for several music theater pieces, including an off-Broadway stage musical of Neil Gaiman’s novel Coraline, for which he received an Obie Award. In 2014, Merritt composed songs and background music for the first musical episode of public radio’s This American Life. Merritt also releases albums under the band names the 6ths, the Gothic Archies, and Future Bible Heroes. The last record released with The Magnetic Fields is 2020’s Quickies.
