Damon Albarn, founder of Gorillaz, has recently commented on his work with Blur. This past Summer, Albarn and Blur collaborated to create Blur’s comeback album. The album, The Ballad of Darren, was released after Blur went on hiatus eight years ago. According to Consequence, Albarn stated that he would like to “wrap up” and focus on Gorillaz instead for now. He said he was grateful for the experience, or what he considered “an honor” and a “beautiful success” to play with Blur. As for the future, the Gorillaz founder described his excitement for an impending opera to be presented in Paris next year.
Albarn also discussed his decision to close his campaign for working for Blur in the French publication Les Inrockuptibles. He says his collaboration with Blur has been “too much” for him. He is not saying he would not work with Blur in the future.
Albarn mentioned his work on an opera in July of this year. The opera is set to include Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s “The Music Flute Part Two” to music. Albarn also confirmed that he would be going to India with singer-songwriter Jamie Hewlett to start on a forthcoming Gorillaz album.
In July of this year, Gorillaz canceled their U.S. performances for “The Getaway Shows.” They had to cancel their performances due to scheduling conflicts and circumstances beyond their control.
