Mount Kimbie is an English electronic music duo consisting of Dominic Maker and Kai Campos. They will be coming to Webster Hall in NYC on May 29!
The duo has expanded upon the EDM template that the UK dubstep scene laid down. Their early EPs were reached with much critical praise when released. Mount Kimbie’s debut album Crooks & Lovers was listed by DJ Mag as being a defining album of the decade.
Mount Kimbie’s early work is embedded in the contemporary UK dubstep scene while at the same time, they have expanded beyond its typical scope. The Guardian described the pair as “leading an exploratory breakaway from bass-heavy dubstep towards a lighter, hazier style of electronica rich with drowsy ambiance and chopped-up found sounds.”
The duo is known to work with field microphones to record their music. Mount Kimbie says that they utilize the pockets of rhythm that come from field recordings and make songs from there.
