Violent Femmes at Webster Hall on October 17

Violent Femmes are an American folk punk band formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1979. The band consists of founding members Gordon Gano on guitar, and lead vocals, and Brian Ritchie on bass. They have been since joined by Blaise Garza and drummer John Sparrow. During the 1980s, Violent Femmes were considered to be an extremely important part of underground folk punk and alternative rock scenes.

Right off the bat with their self-titled debut album, they had major critical acclaim, featuring one of their most popular songs “Blister in the Sun.” Altogether, they have released 10 studio albums and 19 singles over the course of their career. After they released Hallowed Ground in 1984 and The Blind Leading the Naked in 1986, Violent Femmes split the very next year. This split led two of the original members to go solo.

Although there have been some legal dilemmas and controversies between members of the band, after a split in 2009, they have returned to the stage together once again.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of their debut album, and to commemorate the occasion Violent Femmes are going on tour! Violent Femmes will be playing at Webster Hall in New York, NY on October 17. Tickets are on sale on their website at https://vfemmes.com/tour
