Julian Casablancas is an American musician and songwriter, most famous for his role as lead singer of popular alternative-rock band, The Strokes. The Strokes was formed in 1998 and has reached high success in the indie and alternative-rock music scene, however in 2009, Casablancas started to branch out and record as a solo artist. Casablancas has stated that it is important to him because it allows him free reign to say whatever he wants without being connected back to the other members.
The Voidz, typically known as Julian Casablancas + The Voidz, was officially formed in 2013 through several musical connections. Alongside Casablancas, the band consists of Jeramy “Beardo” Gritter and Amir Yaghmai on guitar, Jacob “Jake” Bercovici on bass and synthesizer, Alex Carapetis on drums and percussion, and Jeff Kite on keyboard. In 2017, in an effort to gain more respect for them being a genuine band and not only a side project of Casablancas, they announced in a YouTube video they are now simply, The Voidz.
The experimental stylings of the band have not necessarily been well received by most audiences, but The Voidz have made quite a name for themselves with an extreme cult following. Their goal is to represent things we do not typically see in Western music. The Voidz have self-described their music as being aggressive yet complex.
In 2014, Casablancas announced they would be releasing the debut album Tyranny, which was followed by his move to Upstate New York. After four years of not releasing new music, The Voidz put out their second album, Virtue, in 2018.
