Jon Batiste is celebrating his upcoming record World Music Radio with an album release show. The special performance is set to take place on Wednesday, August 23 at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
Internationally acclaimed musician, bandleader and composer Jon Batiste is releasing his seventh studio album World Music Radio on August 18 via Verve and Interscope Records. The upcoming record is a concept album that was previously announced in June. The album features artists such as Lana Del Rey, Lil Wayne, New Jeans, Camilo, Leigh-Anne, Native Soul, J.I.D., Fireboy DML, Kenny G, Michael Batiste, and Jon Bellion. World Music Radio is executive produced by Jon Batiste, Ryan Lynn and Jon Bellion. The record includes four sides titled A through D and includes singles “Calling Your Name” and “Drink Water.” Via social media Jon Batiste described the new record as “the album was created to be listened to in every way and every environment.”
“World Music Radio is a concept album that takes place in the interstellar regions of the universe. The listener is led through the album by an interstellar traveling griot named Billy Bob Bo Bob, who takes you sonically all around the world at the speed of light. I created this album with a feeling of liberation in my life and a renewed sense of exploration of my personhood, my craft and of the world around me unlike anything I ever felt before. This new album will fill your soul, open your heart and stretch your mind while expanding your vision of popular art,” said Batiste. The singer-songwriter also added that this album re-examines and redefines “the terms like world music as they exist in the culture.”
The upcoming album will be celebrated with two special shows in the US. On the release night of August 18, Batiste will perform a show in Brooklyn, New York before making his way to the West Coast for a show on August 23 in Los Angeles, California. The Grammy and Emmy-winning artist also announced a list of 100 listening events in which fans can listen to the new record collectively and win exclusive prizes on Wednesday, August 16.
