Female record breaker and award-winner, Stevie Nicks is coming to the Moody Center on August 15th! Austin was not originally on the list of stops for this tour, but Nicks added it and tickets for the Austin show went on sale to the public just last week on May 19th. Nicks is known for her iconic performances in Fleetwood Mac, but her solo career is also incredible. With a discography of 8 solo albums, Nicks is sure to put on a great show here in the heart of music.
Stevie Nicks joined band Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and helped the band reach the status of one of the best-selling music acts of all time and win Grammy awards. The bands second album with Stevie Nicks, Rumours, became one of the best-selling albums of all time and went certified 20x platinum in the U.S. It also received the Grammy Award in 1978 for Album of the Year. It is quite common knowledge that Fleetwood Mac is iconic, and Stevie Nicks played a humongous role in making it what it is, but this tour is about the “Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll” (according to Rolling Stone) and her magnificent solo career!
Nicks began her solo career around 1981 while still being a member of Fleetwood Mac. Her first solo album released is titled Bella Donna and was met with success. It charted at #1 on the Billboard 200 list and reached multiplatinum status. Her second solo album came out almost two years later on June 10th, 1983, titled The Wild Heart. This album was also met with critical acclaim and reached #5 on the Billboard 200s album list. It also went double platinum, an honor Nicks had seen many times before in her career. Nicks went on to release two more solo albums, Rock a Little in 1985 and The Other Side of the Mirror in 1989, before taking a short break from her solo stuff. Throughout this time, she had also been working on making music with Fleetwood Mac and touring the world.
Her fifth album, Street Angel was released on May 23rd, 1994. She was going through so much hardship around this period of her life, but that did not stop her from creating music and working hard for the passion she so deeply loves. On May 1st, 2001, Nicks released her 6th studio album, Trouble in Shangri-La, which was met with critical and mainstream success within the media. After the great turnout from her 6th album, Nicks took a 10-year break before releasing more solo music while working with Fleetwood Mac for a majority of that time. After 10 years, Nicks fans were excited to hear that she was planning on releasing a brand-new solo album in 2011. In Your Dreams was released on May 2nd, 2011, and critics believed it had the same sound as her first few albums. It gave listeners nostalgia and feeling of joy when listening to it. The album reached #6 in the Billboard 200 chart. Her most recent album, 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault, was released on September 30th, 2014, and reached #7 on the same chart, making that her 6th top-10 album, which is a huge accomplishment!
Not only does Nicks have an incredible discography of 8 solo albums and 7 albums with Fleetwood Mac, but she also participates in philanthropy and puts on an incredible live show. She started a charity foundation that benefits wounded military personnel called “Stevie Nicks’ Band of Soldiers” and has shown a passion for helping military families in need. Her live performances shock the audience with quick outfit changes and completely changing the aura on stage based on the song she is performing! Rolling Stone named her one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. Don’t miss your chance to see this record-breaking, two time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee sing all of her greatest hits on the Moody Theater stage!
