Este Haim is one of the executive soundtrack producers for the new National Geographic miniseries about Anne Frank’s life, A Small Light. Haim has recruited several of her contemporaries for the soundtrack to perform World War II-era tunes. The contributions of Danielle Haim, Kamasi Washington, Angel Olsen, and Sharon Van Etten have already been posted. Today, we will learn what Weyes Blood has done.
Stereogum.com was the first to report the news. Natalie Mering performs “When You’re Smiling,” a 1928 jazz standard written by Larry Shay, Mark Fisher, and Joe Goodwin, for the new episode of A Small Light. You are familiar with that composition. It is the song “when you smile, the world smiles with you.” Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, and Frank Sinatra have all recorded renditions of “When You’re Smiling,” and Mel Torme sang it to Kramer on a Seinfeld episode. The Weyes Blood version produced by Este Haim is soft and comforting in a melancholy manner.
Este Arielle Haim is a musician from the United States and a member of the famed group Haim. Este, Alana, and Danielle, Este’s younger sisters, are the other two members of the pop-rock trio Haim, which Este established with them. Este is the most well-known member of the group. Este plays the bass guitar and sings for the band Haim. She has a hand in writing every one of Haim’s songs.
Since 2021, Haim has been working as a composer for various cinema and television projects. During the second season of The White Lotus on HBO, she served as a music consultant for the show.
