The American rock band is soon to kick off their 2023 North American Tour in support of their recent album First Two Pages of Frankenstein. The tour begins May 18 in Chicago, IL and is set to conclude on November 19 in Irving, TX. The 32-date tour includes stops at major cities such as Boston, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, Toronto, and more.
After months of constant teasers and sneak peeks, The National has released their ninth studio album First Two Pages of Frankenstein on April 28. The 11-track record includes appearances from Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift and Sufjan Stevens. The album includes singles “Grease in Your Hair,” “Tropic Morning News” and more receiving generally positive reviews reaching No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums. This is the group’s first record in four years.
The Cincinnati-based rock band formed in 1999. The group released their self-titled debut album in 2001 via Brassland Records. The indie rock band first gained recognition with their third studio album, Alligator, receiving critical acclaim. In 2014, the band earned their first Grammy Award-nomination with their sixth studio album Trouble Will Find Me. Four years later, the group won their first Grammy for Sleep Well Beast. The National consists of vocalist Matt Berninger, multi-instrumentalists Aaron and Bryce Dessner, bassist Scott Devendorf, and drummer Bryan Devendorf.
The National is often compared to artists such as Radiohead and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds due to their dark and melancholy lyrics. The band manages to balance a mixture of sounds pulling influences from alternative rock, post-punk, indie, folk and more. The group has used their music in support of political campaigns for Barack Obama and humanitarian support through benefit shows and charity albums.
