On October 29, 1987, in a Stockholm neighborhood, Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson became the mother of Tove Lo. After a lynx that little Nilsson adored at the neighborhood zoo, her godmother gave the young girl the moniker Tove Lo (‘lo’ is Swedish for lynx) when she was three. She started writing poems and short stories at an early age, and by the time she was eleven, she had composed her first songs. She was inspired by the music of Robyn, Jeff Buckley, and Charlotte Gainsbourg while growing up and was particularly taken by the vulnerability of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain’s and their relationship.
Grammy-nominated composer and multiple award-winning performer Tove Lo creates honest, introspective pop influenced by her appreciation of grunge and the pure sounds of her native Sweden. Her 2013 single “Habits (Stay High)” was an unique, understandable, multi-platinum smash and an appropriate introduction to her unfiltered style thanks to the way it bounced between joy and misery and bluntly addressed drug use and sex. She continued with increasingly frank, introspective music after that: She established a reputation for facing the darker aspects of love and relationships with intelligent, daring, and catchy lyrics with her 2014 first album, Queen of the Clouds, and 2017’s BLUE LIPS. She maintained her sharpness while taking a little lighter tone on Sunshine Kitty in 2019, while Dirt Femme in 2022 gave her notion additional complexity As a sought-after collaborator, Tove Lo has collaborated with artists such as Coldplay, Charli XCX, and Nick Jonas. She has also written songs for Lorde, Icona Pop, and Ellie Goulding, including “Love Me Like You Do.”.
