Dreamcar Reunites to Perform At LA Charity Event

According to spin.com last Saturday night AFI singer Davey Havok teamed up with No Doubt band members Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young at a private home in Los Angeles for a surprise appearance at the 11 Annual Musack Rock & Roll Carnival, which is  a charity event benefitting music programs for teens.

In 2017 Dreamcar released their self-titled album Dreamcar but at the time, Havok refused to replace No Doubt’s lead singer Gwen Stefani and instead, Dreamcar introduced an ’80s-inspired ska and punk material that helpedNo Doubt’s career.

During last Saturday’s performance, Dreamcar performed the original song “The Assailant” and a cover of The Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop.” A little later on in the evening, the band performed No Doubt smash hits with “Spiderwebs,” “Underneath It All,” “Sunday Morning” and “Just A Girl.”

On the same night, Stefani was headlining the BeachLife Festival in nearby Redondo Beach . No Doubt has not performed together in eight years while Stefani  pursued her solo career and spent time as a judge on NBC’s The Voice.

Havok and AFI toured last year for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic and this past march March AFI staged a full album performance of the album Sing the Sorrow in honor of its 20th anniversary.

Also AFI will be performing at the Bonnaroo, Bumbershoot and Aftershock festivals later this year. Plus the band will  open for the Original Misfits on July 15 in Phoenix.
