The Mountain Goats & The Hold Steady at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater on June 3rd

The best duo that could ever be imagined will be hitting the Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater stage next month on June 3rd! The Mountain Goats and The Hold Steady will be sharing the stage and singing their top hits all in one night! This is a duo fans won’t want to miss!

The indie band, The Mountain Goats, formed by member John Darnielle in 1991. For many years, Darnielle was the only member of The Mountain Goats, but he would soon be joined by three other men who are just as passionate about music as he is. Darnielle is on vocals, guitar and keyboard, Peter Hughes plays the bass and adds backing vocals to the music, Jon Wurster kills it on the drums and Matt Douglas plays a magnitude of instruments, including flute, saxophone, clarinet, guitar, piano and adds more backing vocals. In their earliest years, they were known for producing low-fidelity home recordings. Darnielle used a cassette deck boombox and only released cassettes and 7-inch vinyls for the first 5 years of the band. On July 1st, 1994, the band released their first full-length studio album, Zopilote Machine. The Mountain Goats also have an album titled, All Hail West Texas, that included a resurfacing of Darnielle’s boombox sounds.

The Mountain Goats have been inspired by many things, including the popular game, Dungeons & Dragons. Their 2019 album, In League with Dragons, was heavily inspired by fantasy video games and fictional characters. On streaming services, they have most recently released two albums in the year 2022. They released Bleed Out on August 19th, 2022 and The Jordan Lake Sessions: Volume 5 on November 18th, 2022.

The Hold Steady is an American Rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. They sing a lot about their home town and are noted for their storytelling within their lyrics. They have addressed issues such as drug addiction and the complexity of religion. The band has seen success from the start. They formed in 2003 and their debut album, Almost Killed Me, was released on March 16th, 2004. The album reached number 31 in the Pazz and Jop poll in 2004. Their second album, Separation Sunday, came out a little over a year later and was noticed by many critics. The album spoke of a character searching for balance between Catholicism and rock and roll. This album related to a lot of American rock fans and people felt like they could connect to the main character, Holly. Their third album, Boys and Girls in America, also saw success as it ranked number 8 on the Rolling Stones best album list of 2006. The Hold Steady saw even more success when their 8th studio album, Open Door Policy, was placed on the Billboard top-ten list.
