The Flaming Lips Celebrating 20 Years of ‘Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots’ at the YouTube Theatre

Grammy-winning band The Flaming Lips are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their memorable 10th studio album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots with a world tour. The tour includes a stop in Inglewood’s YouTube Theatre on Friday, Aug. 18.

The psychedelic rock band is set to perform their influential album from top to bottom and selected fan favorites. After a high demand, the band added the Los Angeles date and shows in North Carolina, Tennessee, and New York. The tour officially begins on April 25 in London, following a few U.K. dates The Flaming Lips will return to the states in May to kick off the U.S. leg of the tour. The 20-date tour extends into four months with a special appearance at the Echoland Music Festival mid-May. The band is currently traveling for their An Evening With tour.

Last year, the band reissued Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots with an anniversary box set that included unreleased material, demos, radio sessions and more. At the same time The Flaming Lips also closed out their American Head American tour in honor of their 16th studio album. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots was first released in July 2002 via Warner Bros. Records. The Flaming Lips drifted into a more electronic sound with this record. The band also broke into the mainstream with the critically acclaimed record. The Gold certified record earned the band their first Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for the 11th track “Approaching Pavonis Mons by Balloon (Utopia Planitia).”
