Album Review: JW Francis – Dream House

Groovy tracks and good vibes

American indie-pop singer-songwriter JW Francis recently released his album Dream House. He is often described as writing classic bedroom pop songs. This new album is full of uplifting messages and positive vibes. He mostly uses guitars and synths to create catchy riffs, melodies, and clever lyrics to explore various topics.

The first track is groovy and upbeat with good vibes. He sings about going home to someone and feeling thankful for them. The track mixes indie pop with synths and rhythmic guitars. The song is catchy and sure to make its listeners feel good and want to dance.

The third track, “Dream House,” is a chill vibe with guitars and gentle vocals. He sings somewhat nostalgically about missing someone. He dreams of being able to be next to them again. This song was inspired by quarantine and missing people in his life. The instrumentation matches the nostalgic vibes with layered acoustic and electric guitars as well as drums.

The fifth track, “Swooning,” goes back into an upbeat, happy vibe. Once again, the instrumentation is dominated by synths and electric guitars. He sings about the love he feels for someone. This track sounds like it could be the soundtrack of a coming-of-age teen movie. Filled with optimism and danceable beats, the track will put listeners in a good mood.

The ninth track is titled “I Wanna Be Your Basketball,” a funny yet intriguing name for a song. He sings about wanting to be someone’s favorite person or thing in a somewhat innocent tone, and he is bitter as he watches them enjoy life without him. On this track, he is accompanied by Margaux. The instrumentation is laid-back and somewhat nostalgic, with rhythmic acoustic guitars and drums driving the rhythm.

The final track, “Sweet as a Rose,” brings back the positive vibes that start the album. He sings about someone being sweet as a rose, and wishes listeners a happy Valentine’s Day. The simple but endearing lyrics encapsulate the track. Behind the vocals sit groovy and upbeat guitars and drums. The listener is sure to feel uplifted by this track’s happy and free-spirited tone.

Overall, JW Francis’ Dream House is an upbeat, groovy album that will keep listeners returning for more good vibes.

Stephanie Pratt: I am a student at Hamilton College majoring in economics and minoring in Spanish and music. Music and writing are two of my passions. I listen to every genre, but my favorite is indie-pop. I have studied and learned to play many different genres of guitar, from classical and rock to pop and indie. I also play piano and have begun to write music. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new and upcoming artists, photography, and writing music. I have attended Berklee College of Music, where I learned more about the music industry, guitar theory, music production, and songwriting. I also love to attend live music events and am often at The House of Blues in Boston checking out my favorite bands.
