They Might Be Giants at the Culture Room on Mar. 15th

During their fruitful career, They Might Be Giants have taken an odd man out p.ov., catchy tunes with wordplay and meshed it together to create songs fans both know and love. John Flansburgh and John Linnell find musical inspiration from everywhere, referencing things from the British Invasion to Tin Pan Alley. They enhanced this wide range with their mysterious touch; the faintly avant-garde aesthetic of their self-titled debut in 1986, reflected their time in New York’s post-punk underground. With favorites like Lincoln, They Might Be Giants built a massive university fan following, and with successes like major-label debut Flood, it easily made them one of the most favored alternative bands before grunge. Later in the 90’s, the band followed a path of a fuller, rock angled sound on their albums such as John Henry, but their creativity expanded to their clever early takeover on the internet as a way to connect with and distribute music to their fans. The 2000s and 2010s sent them into thrive-mode, with a well-received push into soundtracks and children’s music. Here Come the 123’s won a Grammy, while Here Comes Science was nominated for one — as well as praised albums for their adult fans which included Join Us (2011), Glean (2015), and Book (2021).

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
