Metal band Dying Wish just dropped a new video for their latest single, “Now You’ll Rot,” three days ago. A monument to the relentless debacle of dealing with and harnessing one’s own pain and capacity to struggle, the band’s newest song “has an extremely potent and topical message, while the visual finds the band in performance mode, laying waste to their instruments, interspersed with images of creepy, crawly signs of death, decay, and rot” in which worms rest on flesh and trees fall down and wither.
According to the lead vocalist of Dying Wish, the song “Now You’ll Rot” functions as an ACAB anthem, calling for the abolishment of the state of the current police force after numerous accounts of police brutality and institutional racism has come forth ever since the violent weaponization of the boys in blue during the uprisings in which civilians protested the uncivilized and torturous death of George Floyd and demanded the due accountability. Emma says that “Back in 2020, as a band from Portland, we witnessed firsthand the violent weaponization of the police against the citizens of our city during the George Floyd uprisings. This song calls for the abolition of the current police state, as well as the power to communities and liberation for black lives. Two years after writing this song, we still stand firmly in this message. Abolish and rebuild.”
