Bringing reggaeton from the underground to the mainstream, Daddy Yankee has been one of the most, if not the most, influential artists of this genre since the early 2000s. He marketed reggaeton as a music style with his 2004 breakthrough Barrio Fino and even more mainstream, the international hit single “Gasolina” which gave reggaeton the opportunity to shine internationally as well as Daddy Yankee himself.
Daddy Yankee broke records during his initial run, becoming the top-selling Latin artist of the 2000s while remaining independent of any major-label’s control. His legacy continued to grow past music as time went on, to include a show for ABC Radio Networks and a feature film for Paramount Pictures. He continued with his music to drop fully realized studio albums like Prestige, and other projects including the King Daddy mixtape in collaboration with production/urbano duo, Los De La Nazza. He began recording its part 2 in 2014. El Disco Duro was delayed several times from it’s original date in 2016. In 2017, he featured on Luis Fonsi’s major hit “Despacito”; it topped the charts in 47 countries. Daddy Yankee released more charting singles in 2021 including “Problema” and “El Gran Robo, Pt. 2.” He finally dropped a full studio album after a ten-year gap with LegenDaddy in 2022.
Join Daddy Yankee for a pre-Christmas celebration while he travels the country for his La Última Vuelta World Tour on December 22nd at the FTX Arena.
