Jessie Reyez at Oasis Wynwood on Nov. 18th

Jessie Reyez is coming back home to Miami to perform at hot spot, Oasis Wynwood, on November 18th.

Jessie Reyez was born in Toronto, Canada on June 12, 1991. She learned to play guitar as a child from her father, who had mastered the instrument. Before becoming a serious musician, she was a dedicated dancer, and studied hip-hop. Her life changed when her family was given visas to live and work in America after waiting for a long time. She relocated to Miami, Florida with her family, but after working as a bartender, she found that Miami’s party-friendly atmosphere was draining her creativity bank. When a music video she made started to gain some traction online, she relocated back to Toronto. Reyez decided to take up educational courses for low income students that provided knowledge in music and the arts. Through the remix project, she was able to meet King Louie (a rapper from Chicago), who then asked her to work on a song jointly. The track they created together, “Living in the Sky,” generated talk after being released in 2014. Soon, Reyez was being asked to lend her songwriting and vocal capabilities to huge musicians such as Chance the Rapper, Skrillex and R&B legend Babyface.

Since then, Jessie Reyez has gone on to reach the top 25 on the Billboard charts for hip hop/r&b, win the Juno award for best breakthrough artist, feature on the tracklist of Fifty Shades of Grey and drop her first album and deluxe album.

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
