Come see Dillon Francis at Oasis Wynwood on November 4th.

Born in 1987, Francis grew up in Los Angeles. By the time he hit his teens, he favored a mix of the punk and electronic genres. Even so, he was initially focused on the visual arts, including photography, printmaking, and graphic design. After graduating from high school, he attended art school, which in the course of he began experimenting with music production, learning software musical program Ableton from producer Cory Nitta, in Atlanta. He eventually decided to drop out of school and become a full time musician and producer.

Dillon Francis helped to popularize the moombahton electronic genre as well as welcoming trap and dance-pop into his repertoire. 2011’s Westside! explored the melding of Dutch house genre and reggaeton which as a result became known as moombahton. Francis continued to press the style towards the industry and listeners, dubbed moombahcore. He experimented with a vast variety of genres including many features in his 2014 full-length Money Sucks, Friends Rule, a dance album. He then tried something completely new, focusing entirely on Latin styles with the Spanish-language Wut Wut in 2018, earning him back-to-back Latin American Music Award and Latin Grammy nominations for the song “Sexo”. Happy Machine, dropped in 2021, consisted of upbeat, vocal-driven house songs. He released his most recent album, 2022 Cake and Cognac EP.

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
