A notorious lone wolf known for burning his fair share of bridges, Gene Simmons of Kiss once again comes clean about his active decision to not have friends on purpose. Following an interview from 2004 in which Simmons was asked the same question regarding the quality and quantity of his close relationships, the rock star candidly revealed why his self-purported isolation and solitude have long since become his life-long prerogative. In a 2022 interview with Goldmine magazine, Simmons attributed his privacy to his sense of apathy and apparent selfishness when dealing with others, implying that people are often more troublesome than they are worth. According to Consequence.net, In the interview, Simmons says, “I’m more interested in what I want to do, and I don’t want to pretend that I’m interested in what you want to do because I am not.” Simmons later continued on to expand on his own lack of empathy and his perception that having problems is an inherent weakness when describing how he would act if someone were to ask him for advice: “I don’t expect anything from anyone, and I don’t want anyone coming to me with their problems. Everyone’s a grown-up.”

To Gene Simmons, the closest person he has to a friend, whom Simmons preferably calls “the brother he never had,” is Paul Stanley, another member of Kiss. Although the two reportedly don’t hang out much, their working relationship is the closest one Simmons has, much to Simmons’ own preference. To each their own.
