The Los Angeles Grammy Museum is set to host a screening of the documentary, CREEM: America’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Magazine, followed by a post-screening conversation with major names of CREEM. The screening will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in honor of CREEM’s major return after a hiatus of over three decades.
After 33 years away, CREEM makes its grand return to move the focus of music journalism back to the fans. The LA Grammy Museum is honoring the grand occasion with the screening of the documentary, CREEM: America’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Magazine, followed by a conversation with CREEM Chairman JJ Kramer, Editor at the original CREEM Jaan Ulhelzki, CREEM Editor Director Dave Carnie, and moderated by journalist Scott Sterling.
CREEM was founded in 1969 in Detroit by Barry Kramer who grew the underground paper into a national powerhouse that shaped the culture with iconic writers and one of the first female rock critics, Jaan Uhelszki. The magazine broke barriers with its raw, unfiltered and unapologetic rock ‘n’ roll coverage launching a new era of journalism connecting people to music in a whole new way.
CREEM released its first issue on Tuesday, Sept. 13 made available online and in print. The first issue features original art by the legendary Raymond Pettibon, previous member of Black Flag and album cover artists for multiple bands. The new generation of the magazine spans through a variety of genres and music generations covering artists from The Who to Slash to new wave artists such as Special Interest and rap and R&B. The subscription-only premium quarterly launched on Sept. 13 from $24 to $30 with access to CREEM’s online archive from all previous issues.
