Mercyful Fate has announced their first North American headlining tour in over two decades! The tour includes a show at the YouTube Theater on Saturday, Oct. 29 with special guests Kreator and Midnight.
For the first time in over 20 years, heavy metal icons Mercyful Fate return North America with a full headlining tour. The band will be accompanied by supporting acts Kreator and Midnight throughout the 14-date tour. The tour is set to begin on Oct. 25 in Dallas, Texas and concludes on Nov. 16 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mercyful Fate was formed in 1981 in Copenhagen, Denmark by vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Hank Shermann. The two were joined by guitarist Michael Denner, bassist Timi Hansen and drummer Kim Ruzz, becoming a fully complete heavy metal band. The band rose to fame with their self-titled 1982 EP, creating a new breed of heavy metal with their unique sound. In 1984, the band toured the U.S. for the first time, sharing the stage with major acts such as Motorhead and Exciter. Despite only having two albums under their belt, the band parted ways in 1985.
In 1992, Mercyful Fate returned releasing several studio albums after signing a new deal with Metal Blade Records. In 1999, the band released their critically acclaimed 9 album. The band toured with several sold-out shows across the U.S. and South America. The band has been in a hiatus ever since, only making a few special appearances here and there. In 2011, several members reunited onstage for Metallica’s 30th Anniversary concert in San Francisco, California. In 2019, the band returned announcing a 2020 European Tour, though with the permanent addition of bassist Joey Vera following the passing of Timi Hansen.
Earlier this year, Mercyful Fate performed their first live performance since 1999 in Germany where they debuted their new song “The Jackal of Salzburg.” Nearly 23 years after their last U.S. appearance, Mercyful Fate makes their grand return to the states with a headlining tour.
