The Ohio rock band is celebrating their ninth album, How Do You Burn?, their first release in five years. The Afghan Whigs rose to popularity during the grunge movement era, recognized for mixing R&B and soul influences into their alt-band sound. The band ultimately broke up in 2001, reuniting 11 years later. The band returned with major festival performances at Primavera Sound and Lollapalooza and released new material in 2014 with Do to the Beast. Three years later, the band released their eight-studio album, In Spades. The band’s current lineup consists of vocalist Greg Dulli, bassist John Curley, string multi-instrumentalist Rick Nelson, drummer Patrick Keeler and guitarist Christopher Thorn.
The alt-rock bands ninths studio album has been praised by major publications such as Pitchfork, Forbes and many others. Dulli’s songwriting often incorporated a wide range of dark humor, exploring gray areas and often stepping out of the comfort zone.
