Billy Idol Announces New EP The Cage For September 2022 Release, Shares Lead Single & Video “Cage”

The British-American singer-songwriter Billy Idol has announced a new EP entitled The Cage, set to arrive on September 23 through Dark Horse Records. In anticipation of the new project, the musician has shared lead single and music video “Cage.”

The Cage will act as a follow up of Billy Idol’s 2021 project The Roadside EP, which featured his first musical releases in seven years. This follow up project will also see Idol joined by his frequent collaborator and co-writer Steve Stevens on guitar. The project was recorded at Studio America and MDDN Studios in Los Angeles, featuring production from Zakk Cervini and Butch Walker.

The thrilling lead single “Cage” can give fans a good idea of what to expect from the upcoming single, showing Billy Idol at his most energetic and dynamic, while also highlighting the legendary guitarwork of Steve Stevens. The music video for the track, directed by Steven Sebring, shows Idol performing the new single from inside of a cage. Speaking on the creation for “Cage,” co-producer Tommy English explains that “Coming out of the lockdown era, people had a lot of energy stored up… That was the inspiration for ‘Cage.’ Getting out there and doing the things we’ve been missing. And that includes not being afraid to do a raucous punk rock song like ‘Cage.’ And we didn’t worry about whether it fit in anywhere because it just sounds so Billy.”

Billy Idol has previously joined the legendary rock band Journey on their 2021 North American tour.
