Max Cavalera, the 52 year old Brazilian musician, has taken to his socials to bring assurance to the fans in his own beliefs on the Pantera reunion. His opinion remains on saying “fans deserve to hear those songs.” (blabbermouth)
Previously, the other members within the group handled a reunion live performance as an extremely delicate issue. From one perspective, there is an acknowledgement for legacies needing to be passed down. On the other, there’s an odd feeling of not giving the songs total justice when performing for the sake of a tribute. At the end of the day, the original four musicians wouldn’t be performing anymore together. For this exact reason, Vinnie Paul even dismissed PANTERA’s reunion multiple times while he was alive, “People are selfish, man. They want what they want; they don’t care what you want. And it’s unfortunate that people go, ‘Oh, wow, man, they can get Zakk Wylde to jump up there on stage and it’s PANTERA again.’ No, it’s not, you know. It’s not that simple. If Eddit Van Halen was to get shot in the head four times next week, would everybody be going, ‘Hey, man, Zakk, go play for VAN HALEN. Just call it VAN HALEN.'” (blabbermouth)
While this is an understandable concern, a positive outlook is that music has become a form of remembrance for people. Especially for icons such as the Vinnie and Dime, by playing or even listening to their previous tracks, their influence will never fade away. As bittersweet as it is, fans from both the band and individual musicians will only embrace this reunion as a celebration of music. Let us all await for this sentimental performance in the plans for the near future!
