For the first time in 26 years, Porno For Pyros made a special appearance in Los Angeles, California, for a live performance at Perry and Etty Lau Farrell’s avant-garde nightlife event series, Heaven After Dark. Porno For Pyros was joined by Starcrawler, Frankie and the Witch Fingers and Perry Farrell’s Kind Heaven Orchestra on July 7 at The Belasco in downtown Los Angeles.
The Belasco was filled with an exhilarating atmosphere on Thursday night as guests experienced the groundbreaking Heaven After Dark. The Los Angeles installation captivated guests with its carnival feel, projected visual art, street performers and outstanding musicians. At 8 o’clock on the dot Frankie and the Witch Fingers kicked off the night with their high energy punk rock performance. Despite several technical difficulties, Starcrawler continued the show with a lively spirit and even brought a little fan on stage to play guitar for their final song.
Following a series of dances and appearances from glowing street performers, Perry and Etty Lau Farrell surprised the audience a special performance as Perry Farrell’s Kind Heaven Orchestra. Heaven After Dark guests were blown away by the spectacular performance and absolutely mind-blowing guitar shreds by Porno For Pyros as they were accompanied on stage by guitarist Gilby Clarke for “1%” and more Jane’s Addiction hit songs. The audience went insane as guitarist Peter DiStefano dove into the crowd to crowd surf as he was still playing lead guitar. The band ended the night with a group bow and thanked the crowd. Drummer Stephen Perkins, who had performed a live drum set while Norton Wisdom painted for a drum art battle earlier that night, stuck around as the crowd eagerly cheered him and the band on.
Perry Farrell, lead vocalist for Jane’s Addiction and Porno For Pyros, referred to the U.S. Supreme Court Justices as “dishonest” and urged the audience to stand up for their rights hinting to the overturn of Roe v. Wade. “We the people need to stand up to these corrupt motherfuckers,” prompted Farell, “have women reclaim their bodies…but first we’re gonna party!” Between songs, Farell continued his speech “these politicians act like they care, but they do not.” The rock star ended his speech by reminding everyone in the crowd about the upcoming elections in November.
Earlier this year, Porno For Pyros performed their first show in 26 years at the Welcome to Rockville festival. The impromptu reunion show came after Jane’s Addiction having to drop out of the lineup as guitarist Dave Navarro was recovering from COVID. The band’s Heaven After Dark performance is the second reunion show and first live performance in LA in nearly three decades. The band is set to perform another reunion show on July 30 at Metro in Chicago, Illinois as part of the Lallapalooza After Show series.
