Thundercat is set to headline at The Broad Museum for a special outdoor performance on July 21st. Thundercat will be accompanied by Ginger Root in celebration of Takashi Murakami’s Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow, the artist’s first solo exhibition at The Broad Museum.

The two-time Grammy Award-winning musician, Thundercat, will perform a rare live set at The Broad Museum’s outdoor stage showcasing his genre-defying music. Thundercat is a self-described Japanophile, he first became recognized as a member of thrash metal band Suicidal Tendencies. The Los Angeles singer-songwriter has released four solo studio albums and worked with hit artists such as Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, and many more.

Ginger Root is set to open the evening with a special performance combining influences of Japanese City Pop, Stax and Philly Soul. Following the performances, the full museum will open allowing guests to wander the first-floor galleries and view Takashi Murakami’s first solo exhibition. The exhibition includes all of Murakami’s works in The Broad collection and key loans, feature work sculptures, paintings, immersive installations and much more. Murakami’s work explores subject matter such as globalization, postwar Japan, pop culture, and religious iconography.
