Following their announcement of their first full European Tour after nearly three-years delay, Pussy Riot has announced a Los Angeles show set to be on August 10th. The LA show is part of the group’s response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Pussy Riot will be at El Rey Theatre on August 10th alongside Rei Ami for a protest show in favor of women’s rights.
The Russian punk rock band is famously known for their feminist protest music and performance art. The group became popular for their provocative style and guerrilla gigs, generating awareness for feminism, LGBTQ rights and calls for political change. The hardcore punk group is openly opposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin and his policies and have been arrested for multiple protests and incidents against Putin and the Orthodox Church.
The group is also known for their songs such as “Straight Outta Vagina,” “Police State,” “Sexist” and many more. Pussy Riot recently self-released a collection titled Rage Remixes. Founding members of Pussy riot, Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alekhima formed Zona Prava (“Zone of Rights”) an organization that reports and combats human-rights abuses inside Russia’s secretive prison system.
Last month, Pussy Riot announced their first full European Tour after three-years away. The tour will include Maria Alyokhina, who could not leave Russia as she was serving a criminal case sentence. Partial funds from the European tour will go towards organizations helping victims of the war in Ukraine.
This past weekend, Pussy Riot took to social media and shared their disgust for the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The group also stated that they will continue to protest and fight for women’s rights on the streets and in concert venues. Within the same post, Pussy Riot announced a rare headlining Los Angeles show Rei Ami on August 10th.
