The Mars Volta at the Hollywood Palladium on October 21st

The Mars Volta are back! After 10 years, the band has announced a 13-date reunion tour set to be this Fall. The tour hits major cities across the U.S. and concludes in Los Angeles, California on Oct. 21 at the Hollywood Palladium.

The Mars Volta have been teasing fans through social media posts the past week, including having an audio-visual art installation set up in Los Angeles this past weekend. The post-hardcore progressive rockers have released their first new song, “Blacklight Shine” early Tuesday, June 21. The single is the first new music since 2012’s Noctourniquet album, which was followed by the band’s break up.

The progressive rock band originates from El Paso, Texas. The band was formed in 2001, its constant members include Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. In 2003, the band debuted their first studio album, De-Loused in the Comatorium, which features Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Flea. In 2009, the band was awarded a Grammy Award for Best Har Rock Performance for their single “Wax Simulacra” from their fourth album The Bedlam in Goliath. Following the release of their sixth album, Noctourniquet, the band formerly split up due to disagreements. However, in 2014 the duo repaired their friendship and reunited for a new project titled Antemasque.

On June 18, the band’s official social media shared a post with coordinates that matched with Grand Park in LA. Those who visited Grand Park over the weekend found the art installation called L’ytome Hodorxí Telesterion, a giant black box that included a three-minute preview of the bands new single “Blacklight Shine.”
