According to Stereogum, The annual Lollapalooza festival has announced that it will be replacing the legendary alternative rock band Jane’s Addiction on its lineup. Instead, the alt-rock band Porno for Pyros will perform in Jane’s Addiction’s stead on the Sunday date of the festival. Lollapalooza is set to take place between July 28 and July 31 in Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois.
While fans of Jane’s Addiction may be upset that the famed rock act will not be performing, they will likely be consoled by the fact that Porno for Pyros, a band of the same genre, is composed of many of the same members. The formation of Porno for Pyros in 1992 followed the initial breakup of Jane’s Addiction. The band consists of two members from Jane’s Addiction: vocalist and frontman Perry Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins, playing alongside Peter DiStefano on guitar and Martyn LeNoble on bass. See the updated flyer below to see the current list of acts performing at Lollapalooza, including the performance of J-Hope, who replaced Doja Cat.
The decision to replace Jane’s Addiction likely has to do with guitarist Dave Navarro’s case of long Covid, which he recently announced that he had been feeling affected by since December. This may have been the catalyst leading to Porno for Pyros deciding to recently reunite to play the band’s first performance in 24 years at welcome to Rockville.
