The Melvins will be kicking of their Electric Roach Tour on Wednesday, June 15th at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, California. The tour consists of several shows throughout the U.S. and includes special performances by Helms Alee and Harsh Mellow.
Formed in the early ‘80s, The Melvins grew quickly popular for their unique dark and heavy sound. They’re recognized as part of the pioneers who helped create sludge and doom metal. The Washington rock band currently consists of singer and guitarist Buzz “King Buzzo” Osborne, drummer Dale Crover and guitarist Steven Shane McDonald.
Though The Melvins have not truly broken into the mainstream success, they are accredited to have profoundly impacted grunge rock, influencing some of the world’s greatest band such as Nirvana. Dale Crover even played drums with Nirvana for their debut LP Bleach. The Melvins greatly benefited from Nirvana’s success, signing to Atlantic Records in the 1990s and having their fifth studio album, Houdini, reach the Billboard charts.
The Melvins are said to be working on their 25th album set to be released later this year or in 2023. While fans await new music, they can enjoy from The Melvins’ tours such as The Five Legged Tour set to be during this fall following The Electric Roach Tour. The Five Legged tour features eight stops in California, ending on October 29th at the Halloween Freakout in Los Angeles.
